History behind the design

The Volvo 240 series were introduced in the autumn of 1974. Easy to work on and with reliable, and simple mechanicals, the 240 family is lining up alongside similarly-sized Mercedes-Benz models of the same era. Despite its non-sporting image, the Volvo 240 was a successful competitor in touring car racing in the 1980s. In the United States, 240s regularly appear in low-budget endurance racing series such as 24 Hours of LeMons, where the 240 reliability, durability, and easy parts availability are appreciated.
